TRUECORE® steel launches handy new tool for tradies

26 November 2010

BlueScope Steel has launched a new website to help tradespeople work with steel framing made from TRUECORE® steel due to its increasing popularity in the industry.

The site - www.truecore.com.au/tradies - helps to show tradies how easy steel framing it is to work with through videos, tips and fact sheets for trades including frame fixers, 2nd fix carpenters, plumbers, electricians and plasterers. Welcoming visitors to the website is an animated dog, Bluey, who is on hand to explain the workings of the site and offer suggestions on how tradies can use the material to their benefit.

There are numerous videos which are divided into 'Tips for Your Trade', 'Working with Steel' and 'What Other Tradies Say'. They are all downloadable to iTunes meaning they can be easily revisited at a later date.

'Tips for Your Trade' includes video tips segmented by different trades, for example for framers there are tips on safety, screw fixing frames and how to use templates.

'Working with Steel' features handy step-by-step videos on different processes such as cutting and trimming, making frames and corners as well as making holes.

Additionally, there is a video testimonial section called 'What Other Tradies Say', where tradespeople experienced with steel framing share their knowledge on how to install frames made from TRUECORE® steel and what the benefits of the material are.

As well as the video tips, matching downloadable step-by-step instruction sheets and lists of tools are available to print off and take on site to make learning the new skills easier. There is a troubleshooting and 'Frequently Asked Questions' page for anyone wanting to know more, along with a photo gallery of projects to provide a source of inspiration.

Manu Siitonen – market manager, residential, for BlueScope Steel, explains: "With steel house framing continuing to grow in popularity, along with increasing opportunities for those working with it to differentiate themselves in the market place, we saw a need to educate tradespeople of the benefits of working with steel and give them tips on how to do this."

Steel framing is becoming increasingly popular with tradespeople due to the fact that it's pre-fabricated, making it easy to use and minimising on-site waste. It is also favoured for its lightweight properties which make it quick and easy to move around the site and install.

Residential house framing made from TRUECORE® steel is incredibly strong and won't warp or twist over time, and thanks to testing for Australian conditions, comes with a warranty of 50 years*.

All steel made by BlueScope Steel includes recycled steel in its manufacture and 100 per cent of the TRUECORE® steel used in the home frame can be recycled at the end of its service life.
